„History gives another reason for the physicist’s attitude toward the qualitative. The controversy between the followers of the physics of Descartes and of Newton was at its height at the end of the seventeenth century. Descartes, with his vortices, his hooked atoms, and the like, explained everything and calculated nothing; Newton, with the inverse square law of gravitation, calculated everything and explained nothing. History has endorsed Newton and relegated the Cartesian constructions to the domain of curious speculation. „»Chaos«, die Welt als Chaos, besagt: das Seiende im Ganzen relativ auf den Leib und sein Leiben entworfen. In dieser Grundlegung des Weltentwurfes ist alles Entscheidende eingeschlossen, also für das Denken, das als Umwertung aller Werte eine neue Wertsetzung anstrebt, auch die Ansetzung des höchsten Wertes. Dieser ist, wenn die Wahrheit nicht der höchste Wert sein kann, noch über der Wahrheit, d. h. im Sinne des überlieferten Wahrheitsbegriffes: näher und gemäßer dem eigentlich Seienden, d. h. dem Werdenden. Der höchste Wert ist im Unterschied zur Erkenntnis und Wahrheit – die Kunst.
